Sam Houston High School

Sam Houston High School was placed on the San Antonio Independent School District's closure list in 2009 after years of being rated academically unacceptable by state standards and steadily declining enrollment.

After a community uproar against closure, the school known as "The Pride of the East Side" was granted a reprieve for the 2009-2010 school year. Armed with a new principal and a renewed spirit to survive, the school was given the opportunity to turn itself around.
